The government denied a university exodus and targeted rectors for "false claims."

Amid tensions with national universities , the government , through the Ministry of Human Capital, responded to reports of 10,000 resignations within the education system. In an official statement, the ministry accused the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) of spreading "false statements " and denied any evidence of a mass departure of teachers or non-teaching staff. According to the organization, the staff remains active and the allocated funds have been fully spent .

The Undersecretariat of University Policies, which reports to the Ministry of Education, asserted that CUIL records—which reflect all active staff—show that the positions remain filled . They also warned that, had a reduction of that magnitude occurred, the universities would have had to return approximately $250 billion to the Treasury, corresponding to unpaid salaries. "That return did not occur in any way," they explained.

The statement also cited figures from the 2023 Yearbook of University Statistics, indicating that Treasury-funded personnel expenditures totaled $1.15 trillion, with a workforce of 220,660 . According to the official report, this payroll represents an annual average of $5,242,431 per employee. "If 10,000 positions had been lost, there should have been a budget surplus of more than $119 billion. That surplus does not exist," they emphasized.

According to official data, 196,060 positions were registered at national universities in October 2023. In May of this year, that number rose to 198,988 , including all funding sources. In the case of positions paid directly by the National Treasury, the number increased from 193,927 to 196,533.

There was also an increase in full-time positions , which involve greater responsibility and workload. These positions rose from 19,190 to 19,729 between October and May. In addition, the number of full-time positions (from 4,445 to 4,815), associate positions (from 2,069 to 2,122), and assistant positions (from 6,868 to 6,924) increased.

The only drop was in the number of first assistant positions, which fell from 1,607 to 1,584. The ministry explained that this could be due to internal turnover rather than an actual reduction in staff. In that regard, they stated that the teaching staff remains stable .

The statement concluded with a defense of the Javier Milei administration's commitment to public higher education and a message to universities: "We urge you to communicate responsibly, avoiding erroneous information that could generate unjustified alarm in the academic community and society." Human Capital reiterated that there was no exodus, that the positions remain active, and that the budget was executed normally .
